Ja Morant became the first man to successfully scale Mount Wembanyama … albeit without it counting on the scoresheet.
The Memphis Grizzlies guard Morant went viral on Wednesday for an absurd poster dunk on San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama. With 2:10 left in the fourth quarter, Morant was fouled by San Antonio’s Stephon Castle on the left wing, causing the referee to blow the play dead. Unfazed though, Morant continued down the runway towards the basket where the 7-foot-4 kraken Wembanyama was awaiting him.
With the sheer willpower of Rey Mysterio stepping into the ring to face down The Big Show, Morant challenged Wembanyama at the summit … and won. Morant threw the ball into the basket over the top of Wembanyama, blowing a hole right through the space-time continuum in the process.

Here is the video of Morant’s wild jam.

With the whistle having blown, it is very possible that Wembanyama held back a bit there with his contest. But that hardly made Morant’s Jumpman moment right on the head of the best defender in the NBA right now any less impressive.
Even if his cruel-and-unusual dunk on Wembanyama did not count, Morant still finished with 21 points and 12 assists as Memphis beat San Antonio 129-115. The multi-time NBA All-Star Morant said earlier this season that he was going to stop dunking in order to better preserve his body. But clearly that one turned out to be a blatant lie.
