Jarrett Jack out for season with torn ACL

Brooklyn Nets guard Jarrett Jack is out for the remainder of the 2015-16 NBA season after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee, the team announced in a release on Sunday.

Jack was also said to have suffered a small medial meniscus tear in the knee. He was injured late in the third quarter of Brooklyn’s 100-97 victory over the Boston Celtics on Saturday night. Jack got out in the open floor on a fastbreak and, in a non-contact play, his knee appeared to buckle as he planted on it.

Here is video of the play where Jack was injured:

The Georgia Tech product had quietly been stringing together a stellar season for the 10-23 Nets this year, averaging 12.8 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, and 7.8 assists per game.

Pesky third-year guard Shane Larkin will likely be thrust into heavy minutes as Brooklyn’s new starting point guard, and journeyman Donald Sloan can be expected to get more run as well.

As for Jack, his contract for next season is partially non-guaranteed, and he becomes an unrestricted free agent either way in 2017. We have recently seen much younger point guards lose their mobility almost entirely thanks to ACL tears (see: Marshall, Kendall). For the 32-year-old Jack, who plays at the deepest position in the league, it’s worth wondering if this is the last we see of him in the Association.
