Report: Jason Kidd to interview for Knicks head coach job

Jason Kidd

The New York Knicks have a surprising interview lined up for their head coaching position.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Knicks have received permission from the Los Angeles Lakers to interview Jason Kidd for their head coaching position.

Kidd is a somewhat surprising choice for an interview, and probably doesn’t start as a leading candidate. It’s also worth remembering that he got his start as a head coach in New York with the Brooklyn Nets, a tenure that did not particularly end well for anyone.

Kidd is just 183-190 as an NBA head coach with the Nets and Bucks, and has clashed with players and management during his coaching career. That would make him an awkward choice for a Knicks organization that already has a reputation for being overly chaotic. In fact, the perceived leading candidate to actually land the Knicks job is regarded as a stricter, more demanding boss.

The longtime NBA point guard has reportedly been receiving very positive reviews as an assistant with the Lakers. Perhaps the Knicks will see that too and decide that he warrants another shot at a head coaching job.
