JJ Redick confirms former NBA All-Star’s wild story about him

JJ Redick may be exactly the kind of coaching psycho that the Los Angeles Lakers need.

Retired former NBA All-Star guard Baron Davis shared a wild anecdote to X on Saturday about the new Lakers head coach Redick. Davis said that he ran into Redick at the local car wash and that Redick was on his laptop watching film … while at the car wash.

Just ran into @jj_redick at the Car Wash. he had the Laptop watching film!!!! Players coach!!! Lakers in great hands !! #dedication

Speaking with reporters prior to Saturday’s game against the Sacramento Kings, Redick confirmed that the story was true. He did add though that he doesn’t usually watch film in public but had to find the time with the Lakers on a Friday-Saturday back-to-back and his kids playing youth games of their own on Saturday on top of that.

JJ Redick confirmed Baron Davis’ tweet that he was watching film on his laptop at the car wash today. Redick said he doesn’t typically watch film in public but because of the quick turnaround with the back-to-back, and his children playing two basketball games today, he needed to…

The 40-year-old Redick is a rookie head coach as well as one of the youngest head coaches in the NBA, so this is exactly the kind of work ethic he needs to be successful. Ball is truly life, even when in the middle of weekend errands.

Redick might not be the biggest coaching lunatic in basketball right now (that title belongs to an Eastern Conference head coach). But he has the Lakers off to a 2-0 start with an offense centered around Anthony Davis (35.5 points per game), so it is so far, so good for Redick.
