Kawhi Leonard breaks silence on his ongoing salary cap scandal

Kawhi Leonard sounded as robotic as ever when asked to address the Los Angeles Clippers’ ongoing salary cap circumvention scandal.

Leonard has been at the center of Pablo Torre’s explosive reporting on the Clippers allegedly funneling money to the All-Star through the now-bankrupt tree-planting company Aspiration. Naturally, the two-time NBA Finals MVP was asked about the allegations on Monday during the Clippers’ media day held at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif.

“The NBA is going to do their job,” Leonard said, when asked about the issue during his press conference. “None of us did no wrongdoing. That’s it. We invite the investigations. It’s not going to be a distraction for me or my team.”

When one reporter asked if Leonard, who was allegedly promised nearly $50 million from Aspiration based on Torre’s reports, had actually received any money, the former Defensive Player of the Year gave a simple answer.

“Uhh, no,” Leonard replied.

Leonard added that he doesn’t deal with the “conspiracies or clickbait analysts or journalism” that have pinned him to Aspiration. He also denied claims that he failed to perform any services for the company in exchange for any endorsement money he was promised.

Leonard has always been a man of few words. That remains to be the case as his team faces one of the largest NBA scandals in recent memory. The fiasco has led to opposing NBA executives calling for the Clippers to be subjected to severe punishment that could potentially handcuff the franchise for the foreseeable future.
