The Raptors have refused to complete the agreed deal with the Clippers, as they do not want to be on the hook for any penalties related to how the Clippers paid Leonard. That has left him in a state of limbo with camp a little over a month away. The Raptors are scheduled to open camp on Sept. 29.
There has been a whole host of reporting about the ongoing investigation and when it might end. Some have suggested it could drag into next year, while other reports indicate it is moving into its final stages. All involved would almost certainly prefer the latter, as a trade is hinging on the outcome and the league probably just wants this behind them.
On the other hand, the NBA must be careful, as rival owners will want to see the Clippers properly punished for any wrongdoing.
