Kevin Durant put speculation to rest Monday regarding his long-term future with the Houston Rockets.
Durant was asked at the team’s media day if he intends to commit to the Rockets on a long-term contract. The star forward replied that he does not know when it will happen, but he fully intends to sign an extension.
“I do see myself signing a contract extension. I can’t tell you exactly when that will happen, but I do see it happening,” Durant told reporters.

Durant is currently entering the final season of his contract, which led to lingering speculation about his future. The rumors grew last month amid reports that the two sides were far apart in extension talks, and that free agency next summer was a real possibility for Durant.
Either something changed in the last month or that was never the case to begin with, as it emerged earlier this week that a Durant extension was inevitable. Now the star forward has said so himself, which should put the speculation to rest for good.
The Rockets can pay Durant more than any other team by virtue of acquiring him via trade. Though he turned 37 on Monday, he remains a highly productive player, and averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game for the Phoenix Suns last season.
