Kevin Love denies he has any interest in Lakers
Kevin Love says there are a lot of lies about him floating around right now, and he addressed two of them at the same time on Friday.
As you have probably seen, Love and Kyrie Irving were recently criticized for having a handshake that appeared to include a smoking gesture. The Cavs later explained that the two players were sharpening the edges of an imaginary mustache. So there’s that, and then there’s the report that Love is planning to opt out of his contract at the end of the season and give serious thought to signing with the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Whatever (people assumed) we were doing with our hands was about as true as me going to the Lakers,” Love said Friday, per Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal. “Going to the Lakers, I don’t know where someone got that.”
As for the handshake, Love is sticking to the mustache story.
“I don’t know why it was so hard for people to realize we were actually curling our mustache. I guess because I had my fingers in the wrong place,” he said. “But looking at the tape, film don’t lie. It does look like we’re doing something bad, but that’s not the case.”
I actually believe him about the handshake. If you look at where Irving’s hand was, it was on the side of his face and not really at his lips. Plus, they knew the cameras were rolling. Would they really be that stupid?
And the whole opt out thing — Love would be silly not to. He can sign a much more lucrative deal if he opts out at the end of the season. But that doesn’t mean he’s going to the Lakers. Has anyone watched Kobe Bryant and company this season? Who the hell would want to go there over staying with LeBron?
