The Brooklyn Nets have admitted their efforts to become a contender did not work out as planned, and now they are trying to rebuild and trade away some of their pieces.
The Nets reportedly have made Joe Johnson, Brook Lopez and Deron Williams available for trade, and Williams sounds like one of the players who could be dealt.
Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Nets are talking about trading Williams to the Sacramento Kings. Darren Collison, Jason Thompson and Derrick Williams could go to Brooklyn as part of a deal.
Woj says one potential hurdle is Sacramento’s desire to have Mason Plumlee included in a trade, because he says the Nets want to keep the big man.
Williams has two years and $43 million left on his contract. Moving to Sacramento could appeal to him because it would reunite him with Tyrone Corbin, whom he knows from their time together with the Utah Jazz. Williams could also be open to a trade based on how the fans turned on him.
Though the trade is being discussed, the New York Daily News’ Stefan Bondy says a deal is “not close at all.”
