Report: Lakers ‘firmly believe’ they will sign Kawhi Leonard
The Los Angeles Lakers really believe they are in the lead to sign Kawhi Leonard, according to a report.
The New York Times’ Marc Stein reported on Friday night that the Lakers “firmly believe” they are the leaders to sign Leonard.
How high is the bar for the Clippers now? They might not only have to beat out Toronto … they might have to convince Kevin Durant to choose the Clippers to then convince Kawhi to choose the Clippers over the Lakers. League sources insist that the Laker threat is that significant

The next week is going to absolutely fascinating on the Kawhi front alone. The Clippers have to beat out the newly minted champions and the lords of Los Angeles. The Lakers, meanwhile, firmly believe they've got Toronto (and anyone else) beat in the Kawhi Sweepstakes. #madness

Is this just talk coming from the Lakers to spread the feeling around the league that they are the place to be once again? Or is this really legitimate?
There was talk during the season that Leonard did not want to team with LeBron James on the Lakers. However, going back to last summer when Leonard trade rumors were around, all reports stated Leonard wanted to join the Lakers. Maybe he’s feeling that way again.
Leonard was also previously said to be seriously considering a return to the Raptors, with whom he just won a title.
