Lakers have interest in signing Dion Waiters

Dion Waiters

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to add a guard and reportedly have interest in possibly signing Dion Waiters.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Sunday that the Lakers have plans to talk with Waiters. Waiters, 28, only played in three games for the Miami Heat this season and was suspended multiple times. He was sent to Memphis as part of the trade that brought Andre Iguodala to Miami. Waiters was waived by the Grizzlies and is unlikely to be claimed, which would make him a free agent.

One factor that seemingly legitimizes the Lakers’ interest in Waiters is that he was a client of Lakers president Rob Pelinka when Pelinka was a player agent.

The Lakers are seeking a guard and were interested in signing Darren Collison if the veteran came out of retirement. But Collison informed both Los Angeles NBA teams that he would remain retired.

Adding Waiters would be a gamble for the team’s chemistry, but so was the Dwight Howard signing, and that paid off. Are the Lakers willing to take another risk? Possibly.
