The Los Angeles Lakers will not be shut out on the Kawhi Leonard front.
On Wednesday, ESPN reported that LeBron James is hesitant to be the first star player to head to the Lakers. That put pressure on the Lakers to try and acquire Leonard in a trade with the Spurs. Apparently the Lakers listened, because they reportedly renewed their trade efforts.
ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reports that the Lakers renewed their effort on Wednesday to talk Leonard trades with San Antonio.
Update from this morning’s story. The Lakers re-engaged the Spurs Wednesday in aggressively pursuing Kawhi Leonard. Story w/ @wojespn coming shortly on ESPN. This is the first contact between the teams since the Spurs “shut the door” on them after an initial call.

The last time the two sides talked, the Spurs reportedly “shut the door” on the Lakers’ trade efforts.
Leonard still has a year left on his contract, meaning the Spurs can keep him. But if he is going to be a disruptive presence all season, would they want to take their chances with keeping him or honor his desire to be traded? Only San Antonio knows the answer to that question.
