LaVar Ball reportedly wants Lonzo’s rookie shoe to be $200

LaVar Ball

We’ve heard a little less from LaVar Ball now that UCLA’s season has concluded, but there will still be a window for him to talk as the NBA Draft nears.

LaVar’s son, Lonzo, is expected to be a top-five pick and potentially could go first or second overall. LaVar has long held a master plan for how he would run his sons’ business, which includes launching the “Big Baller Brand” apparel company. Rather than simply sign a shoe and apparel endorsement deal with a big company like Nike, adidas or Under Armour the way most athletes do, LaVar is seeking for his sons a licensing deal that involves co-branding of his Big Baller Brand.

It’s an interesting concept, but so far the big companies are passing on such an arrangement with Big Baller Brand.

The Vertical’s Nick DePaula wrote an article about LaVar’s pursuit with shoe companies, and he added a new piece of information. According to DePaula, LaVar Ball is targeting the $200 tier for Big Baller Brand’s first basketball shoe, which presumably will be Lonzo’s signature rookie shoe.

Currently Big Baller Brand sells T-shirts, sweatshirts and hats, so this would be their first shoe. Is it any surprise that the same company that charges $50 for T-shirts would also reportedly be targeting the $200 price tier for their first shoe? Of course not.
