Last weekend, LeBron James revealed that he had not worn his headband since early March as a sign of team unity. LeBron said he simply wanted to look more like his Cleveland Cavaliers teammates, but we speculated that the headband would come back as soon as James started to struggle.
We were right.
In a headband-less Game 1 loss to the Chicago Bulls, LeBron scored 19 points on 9-of-22 shooting. It was not his — nor the team’s — best night offensively. On Wednesday, LeBron brought back the headband and scored 33 points en route to a convincing 106-91 victory.
“It was just a game-time decision, man,” LeBron told Bleacher Report when asked about the headband. “I just felt like it was time for it to make a comeback. I don’t know. My mind wanders to crazy stuff all the time. The headband been calling me a little bit. I gave him the right to be a part of Game 2 and he delivered. The headband delivered.”
Does it matter if LeBron wears a headband or not? No, but he kind of made it a big deal when he said he stopped wearing it for team unity. That just makes it look lame when he goes back to wearing it after missing a few jumpers.
LeBron being superstitious about his headband is nothing new. In an NBA Finals game two years ago, he was struggling mightily before turning things around when the headband got knocked off. He chose not to put it back on for the remainder of the game and still wore it Game 7.
