Report: LeBron James will meet with Warriors in free agency

LeBron James

LeBron James is two losses away from falling to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals yet again, and there’s only one way to assure he is not faced with a similar situation next year. But would he be open to it?

With LeBron set to become a free agent this summer, Stephen A. Smith said on ESPN’s “First Take” Wednesday that the Warriors will be one of the teams James meets with this summer.

Obviously, it would be next to impossible for the Warriors to sign LeBron and keep their current core together, so the scenario Smith laid out would involve Klay Thompson and likely Draymond Green being moved. Considering Golden State is probably going to win yet another title, why would they want to shake things up that much?

Thompson is signed through next season and Green is under contract through 2020. The Warriors are on pace to rack up a truly mind-boggling luxury tax bill if they try to keep both in addition to Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry, but all of the aforementioned players are younger than LeBron. Adding LeBron at this stage simply doesn’t make sense.

If LeBron does leave Cleveland again, there’s one Eastern Conference team that everyone seems to think he’ll be most interested in signing with. That said, we know better than to try to predict what King James is going to do.
