LeBron James posts ugly halftime stat line not seen since 2010

4-time MVP LeBron James looked mortal on Monday in the first half of the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Detroit Pistons.

Despite consistently outpacing Father Time through the years, the 41-year-old James finally looked his age before halftime at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich. The Lakers star went scoreless in the first half for the first time since 2010 — a full decade and a half later.

James missed all five of his shots and looked checked out offensively, relative to his usual standards.

James did help his team in other ways, tallying 4 rebounds and 6 assists. But his scoring absence clearly affected the Lakers, who trailed 65-52 at the break.

The 22-time All-Star bounced back in the second half. He finished with 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists, but the near triple-double came in a 113-110 loss to end the Lakers 9-game winning streak.

For years, the idea of James having a scoreless half would have been unfathomable. His physically imposing frame used to get him easy points while also serving as the central hub of his team’s scoring attack. That changed this season with Luka Doncic firmly at the center of the Lakers’ offense, with James being reduced to a third option behind Austin Reaves.

Earlier this season, fans saw James’ legendary 10-point streak come to an end. His scoreless half on Monday may not be as significant a decline marker, but it does point to James’ shrinking role on a Lakers team he once led to a championship.
