Earlier this season, Marcin Gortat was called out by Wizards head coach Randy Wittman after the team’s loss to the Thunder. Gortat responded with a defense of his performance while also saying he didn’t feel it was necessary to be singled out in front of the media.
On Monday, Gortat briefly thought his time playing for Wittman had come to an end. The Wizards big man woke up to find several messages on his phone, which led him to think he had been traded.
Omg!! When i woke up and I checked my phone I had about 20 messages!! I though I was traded ?????…. Gzzzzzz #dcrising

Thankfully, Gortat did not get dealt and was in Washington’s lineup for Monday’s game against the Clippers. He scored 12 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the 108-91 loss.
The messages likely were congratulatory in nature considering Gortat was named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week for averaging 21.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 1.7 blocked shots during games played from December 21 through December 27. Whew. Crisis averted.
