For Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes, 2015 was a year to forget in many ways. The NBA veteran had more than his fair share of drama off the court, and he reflected on much of it on social media Thursday night.
In a lengthy Instagram rant, Barnes called 2015 “hands down the worst year of my life.” He made several references to the situation with his ex-wife and Derek Fisher, but he started with venting about being traded by the Los Angeles Clippers and Rihanna making him look bad.
“I had to walk away from the only thing I’ve wanted, MY OWN FAMILY!” Barnes wrote. “To being traded away from a team & city I love! ‘They call that the business.’ Lied on by a pop star who’s lucky I stuck to the script and didn’t expose her lien a–. Funny thing about texts and pics is they DONT LIE!. I Guess they call that getting played.”
If you remember, Barnes was rumored to have been dating Rihanna over the summer, and he described the two as “friends” but said it had the potential to become more. Rihanna later unloaded on Barnes and said she has never met him in a pretty harsh Instagram post.
More recently, Barnes got in a fight with ex-teammate and former friend Derek Fisher, who was dating Barnes’ ex-wife. Here are the 35-year-old’s thoughts on that.
“Last BUT NOT LEAST… Being stuck in the ‘triangle offense’ w my ex and snitch, I mean former teammate & friend Who went behind my back, messed w my ex, got caught, got dealt w for being a snake, then ran and told the Police & NBA.. Instead of taken that ass whoopin like a man & kept it moving….! WHERE THEY DO THAT AT? Guess cause I didn’t SNITCH, I get a 2 game suspension by the league ‘They call that LIFE'”.
Barnes supposedly drove 95 miles to his ex-wife Gloria Govan’s home in October to fight Fisher. One report claims Barnes punched Fisher and only stopped because one of his children begged him. Prior to being suspended, Barnes said he was angry over the way Fisher handled everything.
And let’s not forget about the remarks Barnes made about Doc Rivers a few months back. There had to have been a reference to Doc somewhere in his Instagram babbling.
