The Miami Heat are expected to waive guard Terry Rozier before the conclusion of the regular season, reports ESPN. The move would free up a roster spot as the team prepares for its playoff push.
Rozier, 32, has been away from the team since October 23, following his arrest as part of a federal investigation into illegal gambling activities. Prosecutors have alleged that Rozier participated in a scheme involving the use of inside information to place unlawful wagers, including an incident in March 2023 while with the Charlotte Hornets.
In that game against the New Orleans Pelicans, he reportedly exited early due to a claimed foot injury after playing just 10 minutes, allowing associated bets on his under props to succeed and generating significant wagering volume.
Rozier has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. His $26.6 million salary for the current season, originally placed in escrow amid the legal proceedings, was later ordered released following an arbitrator’s ruling in his favor.
The 2024 trade that brought Rozier to Miami from Charlotte faced scrutiny over whether the Heat were fully informed of ongoing NBA and federal inquiries at the time. To settle related disputes, the Hornets agreed to send a second-round draft pick to Miami.
With Rozier’s contract expiring this summer and the regular season nearing its end, the Heat must act by April 9 to ensure he clears waivers before the April 12 deadline.
Rozier has not appeared in any games for Miami this season.
