Mike Bibby is being investigated by the Phoenix Police Department for allegations of sexual harassment by a Shadow Mountain (Phoenix, Ariz.) High School teacher.
According to an article from the Arizona Republic, the teacher filed a restraining order in which she claims Bibby forced himself onto her and groped her in Feb. 2017. She claims that he lurked nearby her classroom at the school at times over the ensuing days. The restraining order also mentions an Oct. 2018 incident when Bibby stood outside her classroom.
Bibby, who was an All American at Arizona and later enjoyed a lengthy NBA career, has been the head coach at Shadow Mountain since 2014. He recently led the team to a fifth straight state title and has won five overall at the school.
The Paradise Valley Unified School District was in the middle of an internal investigation but suspended it at the request of the Phoenix Police Department, which is now conducting an investigation. The teacher reported her claim to the school on Feb. 13.
The teacher detailed the nature of the first incident that started things in Feb. 2017. She says she was walking towards her classroom when she saw Bibby driving on campus. Though she did not know him personally, she says he gestured toward her, so she walked to the driver’s side of the car and he jumped out.
The Arizona Republic details the rest of the allegation:
According to the order, Bibby picked her up “around the hips” and carried her into the driver’s seat, her head on the console and her legs splayed out the open door as he laid on top of her. She smelled alcohol on his breath, she wrote.
He started to rub his body and genitals on her, groping her, she wrote, and he told her, “What I could do to you.”
The teacher says she slid out from underneath him, but he followed her and “held her around her waist, hugged her, rubbed his erect penis against her, and made sexually explicit statements,” according to the allegation.
The teacher addressed the matter with Bibby a few days later after she spotted him outside her classroom. She told him he acted inappropriately and that she wasn’t interested in him.
Bibby, 40, has not played in the NBA since 2012. He went viral last year after a photo of him looking unexpectedly huge went viral.
