Mike D’Antoni says Carmelo Anthony was poor fit on Rockets
Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni spoke on Thursday about the team parting ways with Carmelo Anthony, and he tried to put things as politely as possible. The bottom line is that Anthony was a poor fit on the team, so they decided to move on.
Here’s what D’Antoni said about the situation, via Houston Chronicle Rockets reporter Jonathan Feigen:
D'Antoni on the Melo fit: "It’s a puzzle. Pieces are different for every puzzle. This one wasn’t fitting together. It wasn’t from lack of trying. It just didn’t work out. We just had to see how things work out ."

D'Antoni continued: "The way we play probably wasn’t conducive to his game. He was trying to make the necessary sacrifices. It wasn’t fair to him as a Hall of Fame player to play in a way that wasn’t good for him, wasn’t good for us."

The Rockets are keeping Anthony on their roster for now while trying to figure out the next step. He just will not be reporting to the team.
Anthony played 10 games for Houston and the team went 4-6 in those games. They’ve gone 2-1 without him. Anthony is posting among some of the worst shooting percentages of his career (40.5/32.8/68.2) this season.
