Mitch Kupchak may be back running an NBA team before long.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski wrote an article on Monday about the state of the Charlotte Hornets’ GM search. He says Kupchak is the frontrunner for the position, though the team is set to begin a search with interviews potentially coming this week.
According to Woj, in addition to Kupchak, the Hornets have sought permission to interview Philadelphia 76ers VP of Player Personnel Marc Eversley, Houston Rockets Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas and Miami Heat assistant general manager Adam Simon.
Kupchak is the most accomplished of the group. He helped put together the Lakers’ championship teams in 2009 and 2010. Like Hornets owner Michael Jordan, Kupchak played basketball at North Carolina.
Buzz Peterson has been operating as the Hornets’ GM on an interim basis. A report by Woj in February said MJ was looking to bring Kupchak to the Hornets.
