The NBA championship is long out of reach for the Brooklyn Nets, but the wordplay championship is still very much in play for them.

Brooklyn pulled a hilarious move during a recent home game against the LA Clippers. Former Gonzaga star Drew Timme is now notably on the Nets after recently signing a multi-year deal with them.

Timme made his Nets debut against the Clippers on Friday, and the team celebrated the occasion by playing a “South Park” sound effect every time Timme scored. Whenever Timme put the ball in the basket, a loud “TIMMY!” (from the namesake character known for shouting out his own name) rang out inside Barclays Center.

The Nets are so unserious for playing the Timmy from South Park sound after Drew Timme scored 😂

A three-time All-American in college at Gonzaga, Timme is now getting his very first taste of NBA action after impressing this season in the NBA G League (where he averaged 23.9 points per game and even had a recent 50-point game before landing his contract with the Nets). He put up an 11-10 double-double in that game against the Clippers (a 132-100 loss) and followed that up with a 19-point, six-rebound game in a 115-112 road win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday.

Timme even produced the go-ahead shot against Washington with 7.7 seconds remaining (albeit on a goaltend).

At 24 years old, Timme may be a bit too young to have truly appreciated “South Park,” which originally debuted in 1997. But the show has already found its way into the basketball world before, including when it made fun of LeBron James for his stance on China.
