New York billboard challenges LeBron James to join Knicks

The recruiting efforts toward Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James have already begun in earnest.

Facing free agency this summer, James is the hottest property, and one New York company is up with a billboard trying to convince him that the Knicks are the right place for him.

The @nyknicks haven’t hired the right team to recruit the King so we took matters into our own hands. 31st & 7th Ave

A post shared by Major Market Media (@nycadsco) on Apr 5, 2018 at 9:11pm PDT

The wording if a reference to James declaring himself “king of New York” after leading the Cavaliers to a comeback victory at Madison Square Garden last November.

The marketing company that produced the billboard, NYC Ads Co., admitted that James coming to New York is a long shot, but worth the effort.

“Some of you may think we’re crazy and say there’s no chance he ends up in NY,” the company wrote on Instagram. “I think why not? If you talk the talk you gotta walk the walk. You want to be considered the goat? Legend? Icon? I think the best way to solidify all that is winning a chip in NY a place that hasn’t seen it in 40 years.”

The biggest obstacles? The Knicks don’t have the cap room, nor do they have the foundation in place that would turn James’s head. This is a good publicity stunt, but that’s probably all it will turn out to be.
