Patrick Beverley, Mavericks reportedly have mutual interest

Could Patrick Beverley be headed back to the state of Texas this summer?

Mike Fisher of 247Sports reported this week that Beverley is planning to grant the Dallas Mavericks a meeting once free agency begins on Jun. 30. The Mavs, meanwhile, are said to be calculating how to bring the veteran guard to Dallas.

Beverley, who turns 31 next month, averaged 7.6 points and 3.8 assists per game in 78 appearances for the LA Clippers last season, proving to be one of the team’s most important players in a surprise 48-win campaign. He played his first five career NBA seasons with the nearby Houston Rockets.

The Mavs, who went 33-49 last season, could use a hard-nosed, defensive-minded guard like Beverley to pair next to Luka Doncic in the backcourt with a healthy Kristaps Porzingis hopefully anchoring the paint. Beverley may be eyeing the money in his decision, and the cap-rich Mavs can help there too.
