Pau Gasol agrees to one-year deal with Trail Blazers

Pau Gasol

Pau Gasol is headed to the Pacific Northwest.

Gasol and the Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a one-year deal, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday.

Gasol turned 39 earlier in July and struggled to stay healthy last season. He played in just 30 games and underwent foot surgery in May. Despite the operation, Gasol expects to be fully recovered by August.

Gasol has seen his minutes and production dwindle the last few years. He averaged 3.9 points and 4.6 rebounds in 12.0 minutes per game last season. He played 27 games with the Spurs and three with the Milwaukee Bucks before getting injured.

Portland is expected to be without Jusuf Nurkic for a good chunk of the season, which leads to their need for bigs. They still have Zach Collins and they acquired Hassan Whiteside as part of a four-team trade that completed the Jimmy Butler deal.
