Rajon Rondo must have one sardonic sense of humor.
Hours after a noticeable backlash over comments Rondo made on Wednesday about a supposed rift between him and head coach George Karl, the Kings point guard backtracked on his words, saying that it was merely a failed attempt at deadpan comedy.
“Anyone that knows me, I have a dry sense of humor, I can keep a straight face when I’m joking,” said the four-time All-Star per Jason Ham of CSN California. “Nothing between George and I.”
Rondo’s assertions were backed up by Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee, who confirmed that a supposed beef with Karl has been a running punchline of Rondo’s for many months now.

Considering the 2008 NBA champion’s long-standing history of clashing with head coaches (as well as Karl’s less than stellar track record of player relations both in Sacramento and in the past), perhaps Rondo didn’t quite choose the best subject matter to poke fun at.
But if Rondo wants to be this generation’s Andy Kaufman, not caring what anyone else thinks and just making jokes in order to entertain himself, then by all means.
