Report: Ray Allen has turned down multiple offers to return to the Heat

Jesus Shuttlesworth won’t be resurrecting his basketball career any time soon, despite the best efforts of the Miami Heat.

According to a report by Ethan J. Skolnick of the Miami Herald on Sunday, the team has reached out “multiple times through multiple channels” to all-time three-point king Ray Allen to return to South Beach. This includes a “standing offer” to return “since the 2014 offseason” as well as making “additional overtures as recently as this summer.” But the ten-time All-Star has rebuffed all of Miami’s attempts thus far.

Allen, now 40 years old, played with the Heat for two seasons, winning the 2013 championship with them, and hitting perhaps the biggest shot in franchise history.

He has been in unofficial retirement since losing in the 2014 NBA Finals with Miami. While rumors of Allen’s return have continued to swirl, nothing has ever materialized and the sharpshooter hasn’t appeared on a roster or in a game since.

The 23-21 Heat, who currently rank 26th in three-pointers per game and 27th in three-point percentage this season (per NBA.com), could desperately use Allen’s prowess from beyond the arc. But it looks like they’re going to have to turn to new blood in order to address that glaring deficiency.

At least we’ll always have 28.2.
