Could the Los Angeles Lakers really fire their resident Rob Lowe lookalike? A report this week is revealing the answer to that question.
Veteran NBA writer Marc Stein reported this week on Los Angeles Lakers GM Rob Pelinka’s job security in a post to Substack. Stein said that Pelinka maintains the “unwavering” support of Lakers owner Jeanie Buss. The report adds that Pelinka remains entrenched as one of the team’s core decision-makers along with Buss and the Kurt and Linda Rambis duo.
Pelinka is a trusted company man, having served as the agent for the late Kobe Bryant. That presumably gives him plenty of pull with Buss, who has a family-style approach to running the Lakers. But Pelinka’s strategy as GM has come under fire this season after he made an ill-fated trade for Russell Westbrook and struck out with many of the other veterans that he signed like DeAndre Jordan, Kendrick Nunn, and Kent Bazemore.

Stein’s report suggests that Pelinka will not have to worry about getting fired. But with frustration mounting on the 27-31 Lakers, including from LeBron James apparently, Pelinka still has plenty of work cut out for him.
