Report: Thunder acquire Carmelo Anthony in trade with Knicks

Carmelo Anthony

The Oklahoma City Thunder are acquiring Carmelo Anthony in a trade with the New York Knicks, according to reports.

Both ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Vertical’s Shams Charania reported Saturday that the Thunder and Knicks were nearing a deal that would send the forward to OKC. Woj later reported that the deal is complete, with a trade call coming on Monday.

They both say the trade includes center Enes Kanter, outside shooter Doug McDermott, and a draft pick. Charania says the pick is a 2018 second-round selection OKC has via Chicago.

Anthony has experienced friction with the Knicks over the past year, including multiple trade rumors. He was trying to push for a deal to the Houston Rockets, but the Knicks were seeking more in return than what Houston could offer.

On Friday it was reported that Anthony expanded his trade wishlist to include the Thunder and Cavaliers, giving the Knicks more options for a potential deal.

The Thunder are adding Anthony to a core that includes MVP Russell Westbrook and All-Star Paul George. The two reportedly played a big role in getting Anthony to waive his no-trade clause.
