Rudy Gay reportedly on trade block
Rudy Gay is expected to be on the trade block this summer, according to a report from Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld. Kennedy says league sources expect Gay, who is scheduled to make $53.6 million over the next three seasons, to be shopped by the Grizzlies.
Kennedy reports that the Warriors, Raptors, Nets and Magic are among the teams who would be interested in trading for Gay.
Memphis has signed Mike Conley, Zach Randolph, and Marc Gasol to long-term extensions, and they reportedly are looking to re-sign O.J. Mayo, Marreese Speights, and Darrell Arthur, who are all restricted free agents.
Though Gay is one of the better players in the league, the Grizzlies have done fine without him in the lineup. They beat the Spurs in the playoffs last year when Gay was out recovering from shoulder surgery. He also played poorly during the team’s first-round playoff series against the Clippers, so it’s understandable why they might find him expendable if they get the right offer.
I can imagine the Warriors and Nets being in the mix for a deal considering both teams are looking to add talent rather than rebuild. That’s the type of addition that would make Deron Williams consider signing with the Nets long-term.
