Russell Westbrook has officially found a new home for his 18th NBA season.
Westbrook agreed to a deal with the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, his agent told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Westbrook, who will turn 37 in November, spent the 2024-25 season with the Denver Nuggets. He had a $3.5 million player option to return to the team, but he chose to explore free agency instead.
While there had been reports that Westbrook had lucrative offers to play overseas, the star point guard was committed to landing another job in the NBA and found a suitor in Sacramento.
In 75 games with the Nuggets last season, Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists. He showed he is still capable of contributing at the NBA level even in his late-30s, and the Kings had been mentioned as a suitor for him for quite some time.
Westbrook has been named an NBA All-Star nine times. He won the NBA MVP Award in 2017 when he was with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Kings will be his seventh different NBA team.
The Kings finished 40-42 last season and made the NBA play-in tournament, where they lost to the Dallas Mavericks.
