Scott Skiles a ‘serious candidate’ for Orlando Magic job

Scott Skiles

Scott Skiles could be getting back into coaching, and it could be with his former team.

The Orlando Magic on Thursday fired head coach Jacque Vaughn, who was in the middle of his third unsuccessful season as the team’s head coach. Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported news of the firing and says Skiles could be a “serious candidate” for the job.

Skiles played five of his 10 seasons as a player with the Magic. He served as a head coach for 13 seasons, first with Phoenix and then with Chicago and later Milwaukee. He last coached in the 2012-2013 season.

Though the Magic sound interested in Skiles, Woj says no contact has been made between the two sides.

In addition to Vaughn, the Magic cleared out three assistant coaches and appointed James Borrego as their interim head coach, suggesting they could be looking to bring in a new coach pretty quickly.

Woj also mentions Mike Malone and Vinny Del Negro as other potential coaching hires. Malone was fired by the Kings this season, while Del Negro has not coached since being let go by the Clippers following the 2012-2013 season.
