Steve Kerr makes political statement with shirt before Game 2

Steve Kerr

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr took some time out from preparing his team for Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday to discuss politics with the media.

Kerr wore a T-shirt that featured the message “Vote for our Lives” to his pregame press conference hours before tip-off of his team’s game against the Toronto Raptors. He explained to reporters that he wore the shirt in response to the mass shooting in Virginia Beach on Friday, which left 12 people dead at a municipal building.

“The shirt’s a reminder that the only way we can get out of this mess is to actually vote, and vote for people who are going to be willing to create some change with our gun laws in our country,” Kerr said.

Kerr said he has been inspired by the March for Our Lives movement, which is a student-led demonstration aimed at preventing gun violence in America.

Those who have followed Kerr know that the Warriors coach has never been one to shy away from political discussions, so it’s not a surprise that he even took the opportunity to send a message before his team’s biggest game of the year.
