Suns’ plan for Jalen Green is revealed

It is probably safe for Jalen Green to unpack his bags upon his arrival in Phoenix.

The former Houston Rockets star Green is on his way to the Phoenix Suns after being included as part of Sunday’s blockbuster trade sending Kevin Durant to the Rockets. Green, 23, is now headed to a Phoenix team that is all but certainly embarking on a rebuild phase.

Upon the news of Sunday’s trade, many speculated that the Suns would be rerouting Green elsewhere in exchange for more future assets. However, Arizona sports reporter John Gambadoro revealed that will be not be the case.

Gambadoro reports that Phoenix intends to keep Green. The former No. 2 overall pick Green is expected to play in the Suns’ backcourt alongside star player Devin Booker, Gambadoro adds.

Phoenix has a big problem now when it comes to roster construction. In addition to Green and Booker, they have Bradley Beal, Grayson Allen, Dillon Brooks, and Collin Gillespie on the roster. That means the Suns will have no fewer than six players capable of playing shooting guard next season, and many of those players are ball-dominant as well (especially Green, who averaged 21.0 points on 17.5 shot attempts per game for the Rockets this season).

That said though, Phoenix is actively trying to get rid of at least one of those ball-dominant players right now. Apparently, Green is young and talented enough that the Suns want to keep him around as a building block for their potential post-Durant rebuild.
