Timofey Mozgov critical about Nets’ season, coach Kenny Atkinson

Timofey Mozgov’s first season in Brooklyn wasn’t quite the best one, and now he is offering a few candid thoughts on it.

The Nets center recently appeared on Radio Mayak in his native Russia and discussed his frustrations with the team during the 2017-18 campaign.

Per NetsDaily, who gave a translated and condensed version of his remarks:

Mozgov was asked about the Nets and he told the interviewer things were not as he had hoped.

Mozgov said it was a terrible season and he wants to play. When he talks to Kenny Atkinson, he said the coach doesn’t give him many details on what his situation is, offering only, “Keep it up, you’re doing fine.” So he just stays ready because it’s his job, but it’s been extremely hard.

The veteran Mozgov appeared in only 31 games for the Nets this past season, often finding himself as a DNP. He finished with averages of 4.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, which is even worse than what he put up for the Los Angeles Lakers the season prior. The Nets, meanwhile, went just 28-54.

It’s hard to see this situation coming to a happy end with Brooklyn embracing a youth movement while the soon-to-be 32-year-old Mozgov is still owed nearly $33 million over the next two seasons. On the bright side, at least he isn’t getting dunked on by his teammates any more.
