Trae Young is returning fire at Patrick Beverley this week (and then some).

The Atlanta Hawks star Young has been feuding with the former All-Defensive guard Beverley over social media in recent days. It all began when Beverley voiced his opinion in an X post about why NBA players give so much effort during summer runs in the gym but not during the NBA All-Star Game.

“Because All-Stars take the game for granted,” wrote Beverley. “Not 1 All-Star on the court. good bump.”

That led to a response from the four-time NBA All-Star Young, who disagreed with Beverley’s take.

“Relax,” wrote Young at Beverley. “Let us speak for ourselves.”

From there, Beverley went into Michael Jordan “I took that personally” mode. He went scorched-earth on Young during a podcast episode, saying that Young had not “won enough” to even speak to him. Beverley also said that he had made the playoffs more often than Young had and even made the claim that those who had played with Young did not think that Young was a good teammate.

On Wednesday night, it was Young’s turn to respond. In a YouTube video that clocked in at 11 minutes and 56 seconds, Young went right back at Beverley, speaking into a microphone and addressing Beverley directly. In a lengthy rant of his own, Young questioned why Beverley, despite the unbelievable cast of talent that he had been teammates with over the course of his NBA career, only had one conference finals appearance to show for it all.

Young also poked fun at Beverley over the infamous incident where Beverley jumped up on the scorer’s table to celebrate a play-in game victory. He even went so far as to say that “I was never scared of Patty Bev” on the court.

At its core, this beef is a fairly random one since Young, 26, and Beverley, 37, are not quite contemporaries and did not even play each other particularly often (as Beverley spent the majority of his career in the Western Conference). But to the point about winning, it is probably safe to say that Young’s one conference finals appearance as the leader of the Hawks in 2021 clears Beverley’s one conference finals appearance as a role player for the LA Clippers in that very same year.

Overall though, Young is one of the more divisive star players in the NBA as an elite scorer and playmaker but one whose talents do not consistently translate into winning (as the Hawks have not even won a single playoff series ever since that 2021 conference finals run). But Young is certainly out here to defend his honor as he also had smoke for another former NBA player-turned-pundit earlier this offseason.
