Heading into Thursday’s NBA Draft, Emmanual Mudiay was a name many people had going before No. 7, so it was a bit of a surprise to see him around when the Nuggets were on the clock. Not wanting to let the opportunity pass, Denver selected the 19-year-old point guard.
The Nuggets, of course, already have a pretty good point guard on the roster in Ty Lawson. However, his future in Denver has been in doubt recently, with trade rumors swirling leading up to the draft. One scenario had Lawson reuniting with former coach George Karl in Sacramento with the Kings.
Lawson is apparently aware of the speculation and, as seen in the above video, seems to think the Nuggets drafting Mudiay signals the end of his time in Denver. Leading up to that point in the live stream, Lawson said Denver should get Justise Winslow, but will probably get Mudiay. Lawson then said he would get a bunch of tweets about getting traded, which is surely what will happen over the coming days.
You can see an extended video of Lawson’s commentary during the draft here.
Lawson’s time may have already been running out. During this pat season, Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly said Lawson needed to “grow up” and this certainly isn’t the first time his name has been mentioned in trade rumors. This time, Lawson may really be on the move.
