Former Rockets guard Ty Lawson is looking for a new NBA home after being officially bought out by the team earlier this week. Could the Pacers be the ones to let Lawson crash on their couch?
According to a report by Shams Charania of The Vertical on Thursday, the 28-year-old is in “strong discussions” with Indiana about the possibility of a deal.

Any potential landing spot for Lawson would be an improvement over the dumpster fire that his time in Houston was. But there are some indications that he would make a good fit in Indiana beyond just that.
The 32-29 Pacers operate at the ninth-fastest pace in the league this season (per ESPN), which would easily suit Lawson’s style of play. Indy doesn’t really have a legitimate backup point guard at the moment either, as they are currently giving the majority of those minutes to Rodney Stuckey, who, truth be told, is more of a two-guard.
While he would be unusable in backcourt lineups alongside Monta Ellis, Lawson might still be able to run with starter units next to George Hill, who has shown that he can effectively play off-the-ball.
Currently clinging to the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference, Indiana’s playoff push would benefit immensely from a speedy second-unit guard who can play crunch time minutes like Lawson.
