Zach Edey is putting his reckless driving incident in the rearview mirror.

The Memphis Grizzlies big man Edey has agreed to a plea deal stemming from his reckless driving incident in May, TMZ Sports reported this week. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Edey has admitted to committing a speeding infraction and is paying a fine of $639.50. As a result, prosecutors are now dropping the misdemeanor reckless driving charge that Edey had been facing.

On May 1, Edey was stopped by police on an Indiana highway for doing 101 mph in his Kia Sorento. Edey reportedly told officers that he was attempting to pass another vehicle (read the full details here).

The incident occurred days after the Grizzlies’ season came to an end. The team lost in five games to the Oklahoma City Thunder during the first round of the playoffs (with the final game of the series taking place on Apr. 26).

Edey, who went to college in Indiana at Purdue University and was a two-time National College Player of the Year there, is the tallest active player in the NBA right now at 7-foot-4. As a rookie for Memphis last season, he put up 9.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks over 21.5 minutes per game (numbers that were good enough for All-Rookie First Team honors).

The plea deal means that the 23-year-old Edey has resolved at least one of his uncertain situations this offseason. But Edey is still battling adversity right now in the form of an ankle injury that will likely cost him a part of the 2025-26 NBA season.
