Former NBA All-Star Vlade Divac suffered a serious injury Thursday in a motorcycle accident while riding along the Montenegrin Adriatic Sea coast.
The 57-year-old fell off his motorcycle and fractured his hip. Divac needed immediate surgery to get an artificial hip implanted.
“During the day, a surgical procedure was performed,” said a spokeswoman for the local hospital, via ESPN. “He is in a stable general and physical condition and is under a careful supervision of the medical staff.”
The Serb played 16 seasons in the NBA. He began his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, who took him in the first round of the 1989 draft. Vlade wore purple and gold for his first seven seasons before famously being sent to the Charlotte Hornets in the trade that sent Kobe Bryant to Los Angeles.
Divac signed a six-year, $62.5 million contract with the Sacramento Kings in 1999. He became one of the centerpieces of a memorable era in Sacramento basketball alongside Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic, Mike Bibby, and current Kings head coach Doug Christie. Vlade earned his lone All-Star nod with the Kings in 2001.
Divac was inducted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019. He had career averages of 11.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.
