The Golden State Warriors are moving to a new arena in San Francisco after next season, which had led some to wonder if there would be a change coming to their name.
Warriors president Rick Welts made quite clear on Wednesday that there was no change coming, and the Golden State branding would remain in place.
Rick Welts with a news drop on our show today:
The Golden State Warriors will keep the name Golden State Warriors when they move to San Francisco. "Let's make it official," Welts said.— Brian Murphy (@knbrmurph) April 4, 2018
Their new arena looks very nice, and not changing the name is a no-brainer. Golden State is an international brand now after the team’s success in recent seasons, and getting rid of it was probably never seriously considered.
