The Washington Wizards are ready to make their pitch to keep Bradley Beal with the organization long-term.
General manager Tommy Sheppard told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that the team will offer Beal a three-year, $111 max deal on Friday, when the guard will be eligible for it.
“At the very first moment allowed, we are going to offer Bradley the full max extension,” Sheppard said.
Sheppard added that the Wizards would be willing to offer one- or two-year extensions if Beal preferred it, but have no plans to put the star guard on the market for trade talks even if he declines the offer.
This is a key moment for Beal’s Wizards tenure, as he will enter the situation with two years left on his current contract. First, he has to decide whether he wants to bet on himself, as he could make himself eligible for the five-year, $254 million super-max if he makes an All-NBA team next year. Then there’s the question of whether Beal sees himself in Washington long-term. His future with the organization is either going to get much clearer or much murkier depending on his decision.
