Report: Zach Edey set to work out for Lakers ahead of NBA Draft

Zach Edey is set to work out for the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of the NBA Draft, according to a report.

NBA Draft analyst Jonathan Givony reported this week that the Lakers have workouts scheduled with both Edey and Ron Holland.

The Lakers have two picks in the draft: Nos. 17 and 55. No. 17 might be on the outer edge of Edey’s expected range for when he might be picked. He could also go in the lottery, which would be in the top 14.

The 22-year-old center has been the Big Ten Player of the Year and National Player of the Year two years in a row. Edey helped Purdue reach the national championship game this season before losing to UConn.

There has been plenty of talk that the 7-foot-4 center’s game would not translate well in the NBA. But Edey has been working on all aspects of his game, including his outside shooting, which he likely thinks would help teams view him more favorably.

Edey might not slip to the Lakers at No. 17, but they’re doing their homework on him. And we do know that potential next Lakers coach Dan Hurley is an Edey fan.

“If Edey isn’t a Lottery pick & a tremendous NBA player, then something’s wrong w/ the NBA-

Then they’re not playing the right game.

He’s going to get to the NBA & adapt. That’s what Special Players do.”
