Floyd Mayweather tweets support of Adrien Broner after loss
Many were wondering how Floyd Mayweather would react to seeing his protege Adrien Broner lose his first career fight. The answer is he hasn’t wavered in his support of the youngster from Cincinnati.
Not long after Broner lost his WBA welterweight title to Marcos Madiana via unanimous decision, Mayweather sent a tweet to Broner:
“hold your head up champ. I love you. A true champion can take a loss and bounce back, my lil brother,” Mayweather wrote. He also included the picture seen at the top.
Broner’s loss to Maidana was his first and therefore significant for a number of reasons. As we said before the fight, Broner considered Mayweather his mentor. He explicitly stated that he trying to become the next Floyd Mayweather Jr. But the big difference between the two is that Floyd has a perfect record while Broner already has a loss. He’ll never be able to be Floyd for that reason alone.
Many fans turned on Broner after the Maidana fight because he behaves like a clown and wasn’t able to back it up. Mayweather talks himself up a bunch, but he hasn’t lost a fight yet. Broner has. Broner had a lot of work to do to repair his image, but at least he still has Floyd on his side. Floyd’s support will likely help him get the fans back.
