Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather Jr. agree to unlikely fight

Mike Tyson is set to be a part of another spectacle in the ring.

The heavyweight boxing icon Tyson has agreed to a deal to fight welterweight legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., TMZ Sports reported on Thursday. TMZ adds that the fight is slated to take place sometime in spring 2026 and will be put on by CSI Sports/Fight Sports.

Tyson’s showdown with Mayweather will also reportedly be an exhibition. Thus, the bout will not count towards either fighter’s official record (with Mayweather notably still boasting a perfect 50-0 career tally).

Now 59 years old, Tyson already faced former YouTuber Jake Paul in a joke of a fight last November. Paul, who is 31 years the junior of Tyson, ended up winning in an eight-round unanimous decision. That fight, for as absurd as it was, did count towards the official record of both fighters (with Tyson dropping to 50-7 on his career after his first official bout since 2005).

Meanwhile, a matchup against Mayweather, who is 48 years old, might be a bit more even for Tyson. Mayweather hasn’t fought officially since 2017 but has participated in a series of exhibition fights since then (most recently in a non-scored bout against John Gotti III in Aug. 2024).

But Tyson already dealt with some health issues that forced the postponement of his fight against Paul by several months. Another fight for Tyson against a much more skilled opponent in Mayweather (while nearly pushing 60 to boot) seems like a ridiculous idea. But given the hype that the Tyson-Paul bout managed to generate, it appears that the money is once again right for the former heavyweight champion Tyson and for Mayweather as well.
