Denny Hamlin escaped Sunday’s race at Dover with a victory, but he was not thanking Ty Dillon for helping him achieve it.
Hamlin got stuck behind a lapped Dillon on lap 205 of the AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Dover International Speedway in Dover, De. on Sunday. On his radio, Hamlin was fuming with Dillon for not giving way to him while a lap ahead.
“I’m just burning my shit up with this f—ing idiot,” Hamlin said of Dillon.
Hamlin had also been frustrated with Dillon a few laps before, and accused Dillon of “cutting me off” and “running me in the s–t.”
Hamlin wound up winning the race, while Dillon was able to finish 15th. Clearly, Hamlin was a little bit agitated, but it did not actually derail his race.
Dillon has been on the other end of some controversy this season. Many would point out, however, that he was under no obligation to get out of Hamlin’s way in that situation.
Ultimately, Dillon will face off against Ty Gibbs next week for the in-season championship.
