Kimi Antonelli once again claimed victory, winning the Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday.
Despite losing position to Charles Leclerc due to a virtual safety car, Antonelli was able to overtake Leclerc on lap 33 and cruise to victory. The win was a nice turnaround after Antonelli failed to finish in the points in two consecutive races.
George Russell made contact with Lewis Hamilton on the opening lap and crashed out of the race Sunday. That helped Antonelli widen his lead to 50 points over Russell. Additionally, Hamilton’s fourth-place finish helped him leapfrog Russell for second place in the drivers’ standings.
Rounding out the podium was Leclerc, who used the advantage of the virtual safety car to finish second ahead of Max Verstappen, who finished third.
In addition to Verstappen’s third-place finish, Red Bull saw Isack Hadjar storm back from last place on the grid to a sixth-place finish, rounding out a successful weekend by Red Bull.
Outside of Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes, McLaren had mixed results in Belgium. Lando Norris, who originally qualified 3rd, was assessed a 10-spot grid penalty for exceeding three replacements of an electronic control unit and finished seventh, while teammate Oscar Piastri finished fifth.
Next up is the Hungarian Grand Prix, which is the last race before the mandatory summer break.
