Arkansas was eliminated from the College World Series on Wednesday night in part because of a brutal blunder from Charles Davalan, but the outfielder’s teammates did everything they could to pick him up after the game.
LSU advanced to the Championship Series with a 6-5 win over Arkansas at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska. The Tigers were trailing 5-3 and had runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning when Luis Hernandez ripped a line drive to left field. Davalan had a chance to catch the ball, but he misplayed it and it got by him.
While the play was ruled a double, the miscue allowed both runners to score and tie the game.

LSU then walked off with a 6-5 win when Jared Jones singled in the next at-bat to drive in Hernandez.
Davalan was crushed by the loss. He was seen crying after the game, and several teammates and coaches went out of their way to console him.
Every Razorback spent time with Charles Davalan postgame.

A team through and through. #WPS pic.twitter.com/noyPITVkte
The entire Arkansas bench went over to Davalan at one point to let him know that the loss was not solely on him.
Wow, the whole Arkansas bench went to console Charles Davalan.

Can’t believe what has happened.

Davalan obviously made the mistake that most people will remember, but a loss is never as simple as one play. A runner reached second earlier in the inning on a throwing error. There was also a fielder’s choice that potentially could have been a double play.
Arkansas needed the win to stay alive, so you can understand why Davalan was devastated. The Razorbacks know that they could have done more to not even put Davalan in a position to cost them the game.
