Ben Richardson tells funny fan story about Clayton Custer
Ben Richardson shared a funny story after clinching a berth to the Final Four on Saturday that shows how big of underdogs Loyola Chicago are.
Richardson scored 23 points to lead the Ramblers to a 78-62 win over Kansas State in the South Region final in Atlanta. During his postgame interview with CBS along with teammate Clayton Custer, Richardson interrupted to share a story.
According to Richardson, a fan came up to them at their hotel on Friday and asked for a photo. The fan was so unfamiliar with the Ramblers that she asked Custer to take the photo, not realizing he was on the team.

“Are you on the team?” the fan apparently asked.
Custer, mind you, was the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. He also hit the shot to send his team to the Sweet 16.
So what did Custer think about Richardson telling that embarrassing story on national TV?
“For the record, I’m going to be mad at Ben for sharing that story.”
Well he won’t be mad for too long. A run to the Final Four will ensure that.
